The Colgate microSonic, which retails at around £5.99, differs from other battery operated toothbrushes. Designed to be used as a manual toothbrush, the microSonic is powered with high speed vibrations rather than mechanical oscillations; they clean plaque and bacteria from the teeth with over 2,000 strokes per minute.

The brushes’head is shaped like a conventional manual brush. It has a raised cleaning tip for hard to reach places and multifunctional bristles; inner bristles cup the teeth and outer bristles reach along the gum line and between the teeth. It has a slim handle with a non slip rubber control and thumb grip and a built in cheek and tongue cleaner to remove plaque and bacteria from the whole mouth.

Although not made with children in mind, as long as manufacturer’s instructions are followed, it is not unsafe for children over the age of 4 to use the microSonic.

Those with braces are advised to use the microSonic with care.

The microSonic battery usually lasts for three months with twice daily usage. The microSonic does not have a replaceable head.
